Sustainable Sonoma Home
Designed to be a forever home for a house that was lost to the Tubs Fire. This house was designed to stand strong, boasting a zero carbon footprint, high fire resistance and use of recycled, reclaimed and natural materials. The solar array is meant to offset the energy requirements, which are minimal due to the Hydronic heating and cooling that runs through the thermal mass of the stained concrete floor. The walls are super insulated with straw bales. The drain system was designed to bypass grey water to the irrigation system, which is also fed by 10,000 gallons of rainwater collection. The great room makes good use of the large dimensional space, with lots of windows and double french doors leading out to a common court yard and back patio. The roof of the great room was framed with custom designed, site built trusses, which accent the open space beautifully. Designed by Arkin Tilt Architects.
